Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC)

Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC)

  • Women of color and young women may face elevated risks of developing triple-negative breast cancers, a type of cancer that spreads more quickly than most other types and doesn’t respond well to hormone or targeted therapies,
  •  Triple negative breast cancer is diagnosed when a woman’s pathology report indicates a negative result for all three (estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER2‐neu).
  • About 10-15% of breast cancers are found to be triple negative.
  • TNBC is more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer, making it more likely to spread to other parts of the body and more likely to recur early after treatment.
  • Significant advancements have been made in the development. Triple negative breast cancer is typically treated with a combination of therapies such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy., and immunotherapy (Keytruda).

Breast Cancer

  • Mammography is the process of using low-energy X-rays to examine the human breast for diagnosis and screening. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses or microcalcifications.
  • Women ages 40 to 44 should have the choice to start annual breast cancer screening with mammograms (x-rays of the breast) if they wish to do so. Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year. Women 55 and older should switch to mammograms every 2 years or can continue yearly screening.
